Our day in Montreal

We left Graham and Megan's house in the morning and headed over to Montreal. Parking was a bit precarious at first since there are quite a few parking garages but not as many outdoor parking lots. With the carrier on top we can't fit into a garage. We finally found a lot a few blocks from the hop-on-hop-off tour.

We decided to take the hop-on-hop-off as we were only going to stay one day and Montreal is a big city. The tour lasted 2 hours and our guide was great. He talked virtually the entire way and had a lot of history plus anecdotes to share with us. We were able to see Old Montreal as well as the greater surrounding areas, including the hill that Montreal received it's name from.

After the tour we walked back to the Cathedral of Notre Dame, had dinner in the area and then watched Aura, a special light show inside the Cathedral that happens at night. I can't begin to tell you how spectacular this show was. It was not very long, maybe 20 minutes at the most but the effects were amazing. We're glad we stayed for it.

After the show, even though it was already close to 7:30 pm, we decided to push on to Quebec City rather than spend the night in Montreal. So on we drove. We arrived around 10 pm only to find out that all the hotels and motels were already booked. We checked several places and were beginning to think we were going to have to sleep in the car that night when I saw a rather rundown looking motel that didn't have a lot of cars in the lot. We turned around and headed over there.

It had 2 rooms left. It was rather amusing in hindsight. When I walked in the girl at the reception said "how are you?" and I answered "desperate". Her response: "I may have a solution for you."

I didn't ask any questions, booked the room and we parked right outside the door. When we opened the door this is what we found:

I guess if I had asked for an hourly rate I probably would have gotten one!

Anyway, it was clean and the bed was comfortable. Far better than sleeping in the car.
