Sault Ste. Marie and Agawa Canyon Tour Train

Today's narrative is a 2 for 1, yesterday and today. Yesterday was a pretty easy day in Sault Ste. Marie and today was the canyon train ride. Sault Ste. Marie is a pretty little town on the border of Canada and the U.S., Canadian side. Sault, as we found out, is pronounced Soo and the Canadians refer to their city as the Soo.

With the construction around the hotel we were at and all the one way streets, we opted not to stay there another night. After breakfast we headed over to the visitor's center. From there we booked an all day canyon train ride for the next day as well as the hotel we were changing to. We met some very nice people a the center who gave us a lot of advice and help.

We pretty much spent the day walking around town and the boardwalk. We finished up at the lock system. The lock system on the Canadian side is for tourism and I was able to watch the water go up and down a couple of times. By the time we had gotten there my leg said no more walking. I waited while Bob went and got the car. I'm not in much pain anymore but not quite 100% yet.

We went to bed early as we had to get up early for the canyon tour. As I said, a very easy day.

The Agawa Canyon Tour Train was an all day affair. It took 4 hours to get to the canyon and 4 hours back. We had 1 1/2 hours at the canyon itself. You are really getting into the countryside on this train. The foliage, trees, lakes and rivers were all beautiful. There was some narration on the train about the terrain and the history on the way up, but not alot.

The canyon has 2 waterfalls and a lookout point. The lookout climb was supposed to be very difficult so Bob and I split up. We didn't think I could do the climb. Afterwards Bob said that it was a good thing I didn't go. 350 steps up. My leg may be getting better but...

I walked to both waterfalls. The tour guide told us that it did not have a lot of water going through them this year. There is speculation why that is but no answer right now. They were still pretty though. I also was able to hike a small trail that went through the woods back to the train. It was pretty easy for me. Bob managed to hike all of it.

Afterwards, we had dinner and came back to the hotel. Tomorrow starts the next leg of our trip.
