Cross Country Canada

Dinosaur Provincial Park

So let's start at the beginning. The kids are moving from Calgary to New Brunswick. They are flying. We are driving their van cross country Canada with the breakables and stuff they didn't get on the moving truck and making a vacation out of it. A little hotel, a little camping, a lot of driving and sight seeing.

We started out the day with a leisurely breakfast with the kids. The plan was to get to Medicine Hat, do some sightseeing and then drive on to Moose Jaw and spend the night. That did not happen.

Halfway to Medicine Hat we saw the sign for Dinosaur Provincial Park and decided to take a detour to it. It was truly amazing. Part of the badlands of Canada, it had some spectacular views. We drove the loop and hiked the badlands trail.

Of course I can't go anywhere without something happening so at the very end of the trail with the car in sight, I fell. Strained/sprained, really not sure which, my left leg. So right now as I type this I am in bed with my leg up and with ice, in pain. Nothing broken and I'm sure I'll be better in the morning.

We got to Dinosaur Park a little later in the day and by the time we left it was around 4:30 pm. So we decided not to push on to Moose Jaw and to spend the night in Medicine Hat. Except, Stampede started in Medicine Hat today and there was not a hotel or motel room available anywhere near there! The extremely nice lady at the visitor center called all over town for us, found us a room at the Imperial and 5 minutes later somebody had booked it out from under us.

So, we had dinner at a seafood restaurant which was not bad and when we told the waitress what happened, she directed us to Swift Current. We got in around 8:30 pm and are looking forward to tomorrow's adventure.
